The North Ossetian State Medical Academy (NOSMA) was founded in the year 1939. NOSMA is one of the best higher educational Institutions in the North The Caucasus. From the period of its existence, o ver 21000 highly qualified specialists have graduated fr om here. The graduates of NOSMA successfully work not only in the Republic but in all regions of Russian Federation and abroad too. The international activity started in use from 1991, onwards and about 350 specialists have been prepared from foreign countries such as the UK, Syria, India, Lebanon, Morocco, Sudan, Dzhibuti, Greece, Baltic States and from the Middle East countries, etc. The faculty constitutes 384 professors and teachers, 53 full time Doctors of Medical Sciences, 34 Sr. Professors, 62 Assistant Doctors. There are about 600 students studying presently, out of which more than 150 students are from India alone. The NOSMA is constituted with 6 medical faculties, they are general medicine, pharmaceutical, paediatric, stomatological, medico-preventive and the faculty of post-graduate education (internship, residency, post graduate course). The faculty of post-graduate education has 15 specialties, clinical residency in 31 different specialties. Annually specialization and advanced training in 25 specialties is also conducted in the academy. NOSMA operates the department of pre-university.
NOSMA has its own clinic and stomatological polyclinic with modern equipment, which can be found in large healthcare institutions of the Republic, with more than 6300 beds in various locations. Along with the professional training we have all the conditions for research work. There is a research laboratory in the Academy and Institute of biomedical research of Vladikavkaz Scientific Center of Russian Academy of Sciences and of RNO-Alania Government. The Medical Academy of NOSMA operates Students' Scientific Society and Association of Young Scientists. Students of the Academy take part in the international conferences and workshops. Students have access to the library with a rich collection of special literature and fiction books numbered about half a million. The library operates an electronic reading room equipped with computers with Internet access. The Academy has state-of-the art laboratory the center for the practical training, which is designed for classroom and extracurricular self-study and is equipped with modern equipment: dummies, phantoms, clinical examination of the patient simulators. There is a provision of audio-video multimedia to show films on hralthcare, nursing, even for presentations etc.
North Ossetia-Alania is one of the Sovereign Republics of Russian Federation. It is situated on the northern slopes of the central Caucasus between two of the highest mountain peak s in Europe. North Ossetia-Alania is one of the smallest, most densely populated and multi-cultural Republics in Russian Federation. The findings of the last census of 1989 show that the population of 646,000 inhabitants represent about 100 nationalities living on an area of 8,000 square km. Vladikavkaz is the capital of North Ossetia-Alania. Historically the Ossetes have been divided between two states, Georgia, of which South Ossetia belongs to Russia and North Ossetia is a constituent Republic. North Ossetia is a Presidential Republic. Ahsarbek Galazov, the first President in the history of Ossetia was unanimously elected on 16th January 1994.
The city is located in the North Caucasus, on the banks of the Terek River, 30 km from the Darial Gorge, where the Georgian military road begins. The road connects Russia and Georgia. Vladikavkaz lies in the temperate zone. Winter seasons are very mild; summers are long, but not dry. The average temperature in January is about minus 11 degree Celsius. Vladikavkaz is well connected by railway with the town of Beslan, a large railway hub on the line Rostov-on-Don-Baku. Regular trains are available to the capital city Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc. Local train service is also available.
Vladikavkaz International Airport is located very near to the NOSMA and there are regular flights to Moscow. More than 130 industrial enterprises of the Republic produce lead, zinc, dolomite, sulphuric acid, electric bulbs, glassware, refractory metals and polymer items. These products are exported to all states of the Commonwealth of Independent States and many countries of the world. The beauty of the North Ossetian Mountains attracts tourists from many countries, for they have the opportunity of mountain climbing, trekking, and skiing. The scientific and cultural potential of Ossetia is very high. “Beslan Maiz Plant" is the largest producer of starch and molasses in the CIS.
North Ossetia is the motherland of talented and prominent people such as Kosta Khetagurov, a great poet and philosopher, academician Vaso Abayev, ballet dancer and People's Artist of the USSR, Veronica Doudarova, the first female conductor in the world and People's Artist of the USSR, Valery Gergiyev, conductor and People's Artist of Russian Federation, Vladimir Tkhapsayev, one of the very best performer of Shakespearean drama and Artist of the USSR.
The Academy has a canteen and a T cafeteria with varied food items. Accommodation is available in the international hostel a 5-minute walk from the Academy building. All facilities are available for the maximum development of creative and sports activities of the person: students can join various sports clubs as per their choice. The Academy has four sports and fitness centers, shooting gallery, a sports ground. Health Organization of North-Alania, biological and anatomical museums are situated at the territory of the Academy. New Era Enlightenment, India has opened an Indian Mess in University Hostel from the academic year 2017 onwards with experienced cooks from India. North and South Indian foods is served keeping in mind balanced diet for the students. All the Russian Medical institutions are constructed like a campus system i.e. educational buildings, library, mess, hostels, sports Complex's, playground, cultural complexes and parks are situated on one campus. Besides this all Universities have their own security surveillance system with their own commando guards for the safety of students and campus. In December 2011, SOGU became one of the winners of the competition of strategic development programs conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
The eligible Indian students can make inquiries and admission to the Faculty of General Medicine (English Medium) through the New Era Educational Consultants, India (NEEC) or it has appointed other leading Educational Consultants in various states of India and abroad only on or before the 1st of August, the year proceeding the new academic year and classes commence from the first week of September. The admission process starts with your documentation being placed for review in order to make sure whether you are eligible or not to study at North Ossetian State University. All applicants are required to submit the required documents to the international Office electronically through the above consultants in or abroad by fax. The list of documents are listed below in order to have a student visa invitation issued.
All the international students are liable to pay the Tuition Fee, Hostel Fee, Administrative charges, Medical Insurance, etc. in Rubles or equivalent amount in USD only to the University office directly in Russia. Students can also transfer the fee to the University account directly. The University will provide the original fee receipt after confirmation of the payment received, also provide necessary documents for availing educational loans if needed. The Tuition Fee and Hostel Fee for every academic year will be notified separately. Students are also liable to pay the charges in India for the following items: Admission and seat confirmation, Visa Invitation letter from University, entry Visa, Air Ticket from New Delhi to Moscow, Transportation from Moscow Airport to the University campus, Hostel room confirmation, Telephone calls to parents on arrival and Registration for 3 months, etc. Diplomas or certificates confirming the completion of education (at applicable levels) in the country of the applicant are to be submitted for attestation to the Federal Supervision Service in Education and Science (Rosobrnadzor) in Russia.

- 3. HIV (AIDS) medical test certificate from a Government recognized pathology laboratory.
- 4. Five Passport size color photos (35 x 45 mm) in the white background. The minimum age should be 17 years or above at the time of admission
The minimum eligibility criteria to get admitted into undergraduate Medical course is that a student must have HSSC (12th) in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The student should satisfy that he/she is eligible for the course when he/she opts to study in North Ossetian State Medical Academy. The NOSMA does not conduct any entrance examination outside Russia or does not accept any kind of donation for admission and admissions are carried purely on merit basis. While academic accomplishment is important, the Admissions Department considers many other factors— strong personal qualities, special talents or the excellence of all kinds, and the ability to take advantage of available resources and opportunities. If the original language of the academic records are other than Russian, a notarized exact Russian translation must be enclosed with them. Maximum age limit to the medical course is 25 years.
