North-Eastern Federal University is located in Yakutsk on the Lena River. The city is said to have started as a small wooden fortress built by the Russian Cossacks in 1632, and today is a lively center with a population of over 250,000. Nevertheless, the university is located in an unusual location called Sakha, the largest and coldest region in the world, with summer temperatures ranging from 50 to +40 degrees Celsius. The city is built on permafrost, a layer of frozen ground hundreds of meters deep. This means that many buildings are built on poles to prevent heat leakage. For students who come here to experience the unique scenery, hiking in the countryside is popular in the summer. Popular winter attractions include the city's many natural histories, archaeological and art museums. There are also many theaters showing traditional Russian dramas, dances, and operas. On-site amenities include indoor and outdoor playgrounds, basketball courts, and a year-round swimming pool. Notable alumni include the Olympic boxer George Balakshin.
Accommodation for all enrolled international medical students is offered in double or triple rooms of the same genders. The rooms are equipped with all the tools you need to stay safe and comfortable at the hostel while studying MBBS in Russia. Each floor of the hostel has a kitchen where students can cook for themselves. All rooms in the hostel have a central heating and cooling system, and the winters in Russia are so harsh that students can spend comfortably on cold, frozen winter days in Russia. All hostels are monitored 24 hours a day and are under the supervision of male and female security guards. Men are not allowed to enter the women's hostel, especially at midnight.
