The North Ossetian State Medical Academy may be a modern multilevel system of continuous training of specialists with higher medical and pharmaceutical education.
More than 3,500 students, interns, residents, graduate students, doctors who undergo primary specialisation and retraining, thematic improvement are trained at the Academy annually.
The structure of the university has 7 faculties, 40 departments, its own clinics, Central lab , psychological and pedagogical service, centers for practical training and testing, a contemporary library with an electronic room and 22 computer classes, providing all students with access to scientific and academic Internet resources.
An important area of activity of North Ossetian State Medical Academy is the development of international relations, in particular, partnerships have been formed with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
The Academy is rapidly developing scientific, pedagogical and methodological schools. Much attention is paid to the formation of an independent work organization system, which is a crucial stage within the implementation of the content of professional educational programs.
Our first priority today is that the formation of professional competencies of the longer term doctor, competitive, highly educated, with a lively lifestyle, and improving the standard of his practical training. The Academy plans to make simulation centre equipped with modern medical equipment, distance learning centre, and therefore the development of telemedicine.
North Ossetian State Medical Academy The beginning of the long-term journey of the North Ossetian State Medical Academy was July 10, 1939, when a medical institute was opened in Ordzhonikidze by the decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR.
The creation of a medical university was an important milestone in the history of culture, education and science of North Ossetia. With his organization, the most task of coaching doctors was solved, which not only North Ossetia, but also other republics of the North Caucasus really needed. With the opening of the North Ossetian State Medical Institute, great opportunities have appeared for the event of life science , clinical medicine and therefore the introduction of latest treatment methods in practice, and for counseling the population.
The old mansion on Butyrina street was the first educational building with which the institute began its life. Theoretical departments were placed here during a short time, and on September 1, 1939, the primary 100 students of the medical faculty began their studies. In 1940, the North Ossetian State Medical Institute received a replacement registration on the Street- Pushkinskaya, building-40, There are material base also improved, and biomedical departments were organised.
The first steps of the institute has connected with the names of great enthusiasts in their field: S.S. Khanaev - the first rector, professors N.I. Odnoralova, A.N. Gennadiev A.G. Chekhovsky, V.E. Robinson, N.I. Mikhailots, associate professors N.M. Zangiev, K.K. Popova, O.B. Sobieva. N.S. Gurtsieva.
The formation of the university was complicated by the Great Patriotic War. However, in wartime conditions, the institute not only did not reduce the volume of training sessions, but also organized the departments of the third and fifth courses. In 1942, the institute survived the evacuation to Yerevan, where it continued to figure at the Yerevan Medical Institute. Here the primary scientific conference of the North Ossetian State Medical Institute happened .
In March 1943, by decision of the government, a new set of first-year students was urgently carried out. In 1943, SOGMI returned to his hometown, and within the same year the primary accelerated graduation of doctors happened .
The year 1943 was the starting point of a professional biography of a medical university. The teachers and students of the institute inscribed their glorious names within the work of Victory over the enemy. For labor heroism in defense work, 251 people of the teaching staff and students were awarded the medal "For the Defense of the Caucasus." NOSMA professors and teachers combined the main work on the institute with advisory and medical add the evacuation hospitals of the town of Ordzhonikidze. They were the initiators of the creation of specialized departments, the authors of a number of original methods of treatment and diagnosis, which were successfully used in hospitals and clinics of the country.
The post-war period put forward new problems for the institute. The main ones are high-quality (professional) growth in teaching staff and an increase in the level of training of graduates. By this time, the institute had expanded, the clinical departments had a bed capacity that corresponded to a medical university of category IV.
The names of scientists whose scientific and teachers authority raised the institute to a qualitatively new stage in the development of medical science in the postwar years are forever inscribed in the history of the institute. Among them are professors B.M. Brin, I.A. Ageenko, K.T. Hovnatanyan, V.Kh. Frauchi, V.E. Robinson, E.S. Babayants. I.M. Lipets, M.N. Bugulov, M.S. Levinson, B.D. Friedman, G.M. Gliner, I.M. Scientific studies of scientists throughout the history of the institute have focused on the development of the most relevant and promising areas determined by the conditions of the republic. Problems of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of infectious, parasitic and venereal diseases were one of the most important in the scientific research of a medical institute. Scientific and practical activity of associate professors I.A. Otaraeva, 3.I. Kalitina, A.A. Ezeeva, professors K.T. Hovnatanyan, B.A. Totoonova, M.N. Bugulova, A.E. Khaeva, Z.G. Basieva, A.M. Ramonova and others led to a sharp decrease in the incidence of the population of the republic with brucellosis, trichinosis, helminth infections, toxoplasmosis, trachoma, and tuberculosis.
The presence in the republic of mining and metallurgical industries necessitated the development of problems of professional pathology. Professor I.M. made a significant contribution to the development of this scientific field. Mashkovsky, B.M. Brin, N.F. Pitenko, S.R. Dikhtyar, and later Professor V.Kh. Kogan, F.F. Ogienko, Z.E. Dzukaev, L.M. Mosin, G.A. Georgiadi, O.N. Gurtsiev, associate professors S.Ch. Tezieva A.G. Adirkhaev. The development of this scientific direction is also provided by the research sector of the academy.

In 1974, the second pediatric faculty of the North Ossetian State Medical Academy was opened. The training of pediatric staff was dictated by a large deficit of pediatric doctors, who were constantly needed by both North Ossetia and other republics of the North Caucasus, where many specialists were sent after studies. The first dean of this faculty was prof. E.A. Totrova. Even before the opening of the faculty of pediatrics, child health was Significant successes were achieved by scientists of the institute in solving scientific problems on the problems of emergency surgery and traumatology (professors S.D. Dzakhov, C.S. Hutiev, A.Kh. Khoranov, P.K. Bychkov, A.A. .N. Aladzhikov).
